Depression F*#*KING sucks

Things have been quiet on the I Build Instagram for a while now. Life took me in a direction I for once had little control over. Finally I’m opening up and getting some help so I can get back on track. And I hope by talking about it and not just manning up and getting on with it this will inspire others to do so if they are struggling.

It wasn’t something that I just woke up with one day. It was a long slide to the bottom before I got help and I’m by no means out of the woods, but I’m looking forward to getting things back on track and can see light at the end of the tunnel.

I used to think depression was something you had control over, like if you’re not happy just change something. Man did I really have no idea. Depression is like an all encompassing fog that you are fully aware is there but for no rhyme or reason you have the motivation or strength to do anything about - you just can’t be F*#%ED. You just watch as things become increasingly harder to deal with and you’re quite happy to throw in the towel.

Did anyone know that the NZ construction industry has the highest suicide rate across any other industry in NZ. What the S*#T something is obviously wrong in our industry and something has to change!

While I’m no professional in this matter I will be here if anyone feels like they need to talk and I hope by talking we can have a small impact on what seems to be a pretty stuffed industry. Please never be to proud to ask for help. #justtalkaboutit

Ricky has done an awesome job in the workshop over the last couple of days. These custom made cedar screens will be an awesome feature on a deck we are finishing up. They look so good we already sold some more to another client 👍. Love having a factory space we can be creative and dry.

It’s so good to see the Wynyard Road villa all finished and being lived in! The kitchen opens up to the deck with huge sliding doors. Such a great entertaining space! 🏡

Workshop49 is born. Been a couple of busy weekends at our workshop. Great space greats great work! I have always wanted to great a place we can create bespoke cabinetry and furniture. Now we have somewhere we can call our own.

Let the steelwork begin! Not all jobs go exactly to plan opening up existing walls can sometimes reveal areas that aren’t structurally sound. These things do happen it’s how we come up with a solution is the important part.
